The story in focus
Lebanon's Ministry of Agriculture, the Council for Development and Reconstruction and UNDP, funded by the World Bank, launched a US$20 million Climate-Smart Matching Grants Facility on 13 October 2026. It offers grants to farmers and cooperatives for climate-smart investments, with training and business-plan support.

- The facility sits under the GATE project, backed by a US$200 million World Bank loan, with a US$20 million UNDP-implemented component for grants and technical assistance.
- The application deadline is 3 November 2026.
What the facility offers
Eligible farmers, agricultural cooperatives and farmers' associations can seek matching grants for efficient irrigation, renewable energy, greenhouses, machinery, storage and post-harvest facilities, processing equipment and other climate-smart technologies. Selected beneficiaries also receive training and help preparing business plans.
The grants range from US$500 to US$5,000 for individual farmers and from US$10,000 to US$35,000 for cooperatives and associations.
Financing and implementation
The facility falls under the Green Agri-food Transformation for Economic Recovery (GATE) project, a Government of Lebanon initiative financed by a US$200 million World Bank loan. The UNDP-implemented component, coordinated with CDR, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Directorate General of Cooperatives, amounts to US$20 million for grants and technical assistance.
At the launch, Minister of Agriculture Nizar Hani described the grants as an investment tool complemented by capacity development and technical assistance. CDR President Mohammad Ali Kabbani said the launch moves GATE from planning to implementation. World Bank representative Mai Ibrahim and UNDP Resident Representative a.i. Thair Shraideh also spoke.
